A word of caution: these titles tend to be extremely graphic and violent in nature, especially online when the language of other gamers can tend toward the extreme, so game with care! Minimize

Why it's a best pick: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been hailed as a modern-day classic. Both single player and co-op game modes offer up some seriously tense FPS action. And it wouldn't truly be a CoD title without killer online gameplay: totally customizable and plenty of downloadable content!... Read Full Review

Why it's a best pick: It's all about strategy in Left 4 Dead 2 as you battle against hordes of zombies. Some have special qualities that make them particularly difficult to take down. It's best played with three other friends online; teamwork is key in both ammo conservation and fighting techniques!... Read Full Review

Why it's a best pick: Gears of War 2 is not for anyone sensitive to blood and gore. So your a video game expert ey?... For starters Gears of war 2 is a third person shooter, not a first person shooter, BIG DIFFERENCE. And as for your deep reviews of the games, its quiet apparent that you copied and pasted these straight from a review site. I would bet on my life that you haven't played any of these games. To sum up the point I'm trying to make, you have no idea what your talking about.

Hello! Well, I'm sorry to hear the depth of your disappointment. When choosing these, I tried to lean toward the more approachable, popular titles on the market rather than hard-core or relentlessly challenging titles. I aim to give the reader an introductory experience rather than suggesting something that may put off someone new to gaming. However, that is merely my opinion! I regret to contradict you, but I have indeed played every title on this list. I also recognize that Gears is 3rd person, but it's kind of an anomaly, no? Do you think there could be a "Best 3rd Person Shooter" list? I'm not too sure... Anyway, I'm sorry that you were that disappointed, but I'm very interested to hear what you would pick! This list could definitely use an update, especially with all the new stuff coming out!

Congratulations Carly G. oh video games expert. You managed to pick sequels to every major FPS on the market. Both Bioshock2 and MWF2 pale in comparison to their predecessors by leagues- each trying to siphon off its predecessor's fame without adding anything of note (except cliche). And while it is true these two titles each offer decent multi-player your article isn't trying focused on that particular aspect. This article's failure to illuminate anything is pathetic- and I don't say that to be mean but objectively so. I could have generated this list looking at FPS game budgets alone (hello Reach), except for Gears of War which doesn't even qualify into the genre. I suppose L4D2 might be on the list, but I don't see a compelling argument for it here. In fact its hard to tell the reviewer did anything but watch trailers, any first hand experience or knowledge is lacking or suspect at best.

All the best

Call of Duty should be number 1!
I am addicted to all those fun games online ....

Indeed, Bioshock is, in my humble opinion, the best FPS out there. I am new to the console gaming thing (and currently unemployed) so I have been voraciously tearing through FPS-ers for the past 4 months. Of the dozen I have played and finished it would be a hard to pin down tie between Bioshock and The Orange Box. Were it not for the amazing storyline and engrossing, period-specific setting of Bioshock it would be a damn near even tie.

1) I kill dogs in COD5 two at a time. AIM, or better yet, knife them.

2) If you think it's turn-based, then you really do suck. Try using a silencer or suppressor on your weapon with camo/uav jammer. Then people won't come running when/if you actually manage to hit something. Doesn't it make sense that when you blast 200 rounds that someone is going to hear it.

3) Sounds like you don't play Hardcore mode. If you did, you'd notice that nobody survives 2 hits, much less 50.

COD series is by far the best first person online shooter experience.

Well the anonymous person sucks at those games, that is why s/he is complaining about it. If it is so called "Turned based killing" then how is it possible to get the 7 kills you need to get the bullet proof dogs and heli that can shoot through walls. The forced aim is not really forced at all, if you dont like it turn of aim assist in the options. The grenades are cooked before throwing, so they explode closer to contact. The dogs are faster making them harder to hit, and if you really cant hit them either quit playing or use a trench gun. And as for the helicopters, are you really stupid enough to think a gattling gun can't shoot through a concrete wall? They can shoot through steel on a tank!!! A wall is nothing to a modern gunship. So stop your whining and go play my little pony.

Call of Duty 4 and 5 suck, they are the worst FPS games ever created on the multiplayer mode. Who ever is behind this style of ''turn-based' killing, or shoot one guy he dies, you can't kill the next guy...and the shoot a guy with 50 rounds but you die from one round ' idea is a moron. These games suppress the good players to allow the not so good to have a chance, but who wants to die because they are good. Infinity Ward and Treyarch are a bunch of idiots and morons, plain and simple, these two game Cod4&5 are not worth your money, all you do is die, and everybody is held to a certain level of skill. Oh and I love how some people's aims are forced of the targets, and the magic grenades are great. Dogs that run through bullets, helicopters that shoot people hidden in buildings. The games are designed to suppress those that were great on CoD2 and 3....

Infinity Ward and Treyarch should lose their contract to make this games, if they want to design games that cheat!
